We are so excited to finally be launching this new community... Welcome to Converge-SF.

This is our very first event and it is being graciously hosted by NextSpace. Our other key supporters are: Onward Search who are providing beverages, and O'Reilly as well as Adobe for some great raffle prizes.

The Line-up:

Doug Winnie - Designer and developer geek for mobile and interactive content. Author, speaker, instructor and community professional.

Converging with Change

Change is everywhere, and as designers and developers we are on the front lines to deal with this change as it happens. Over the last several months, we as an industry have been through an upheaval, but we are also in the center seat to act based on this change. Doug Winnie, will chart out where our industry has been, where it is today, and where it you can take it tomorrow as the leaders in design and development.

Rachel Binx - Stamen

Originally hailing from the high desert of New Mexico, Rachel Binx now works as a Design Technologist at Stamen Design in San Francisco. She enjoys using both the creative and analytical sides of her brain, and gets particularly fired up about projects that combine the two.

Rachel will take us through Stamen's workflow; explaining how they go from raw piles of data to a highly polished final product. To illustrate this process, and how it has changed over time, she will show examples from a long-running project of theirs, the MTV twitter visualizations. Through these examples, she will show Stamen's transition from working in Flash to HTML5/Javascript, and share some of the trials and triumphs that came with it.

The Schedule:

6:30 - Informal networking and drinks, with music by DJ Starpause

7:00 - Welcome & announcements

7:15 - Doug Winnie

7:45 - Break

8:00 - Rachel Binx, Stamen

9:00 - Converge closing comments & raffle

Converge-SF

Think of Converge-SF events as a venue to explore the intersection between design and technology. We hope to bring you inspiring speakers, letting them narrate their creative efforts by way of the presentation of a project. We will cover the many technologies which are used across the design and development workflow and delve into one or two of these technologies along the way.
